May 26, 2015, PALM SPRINGS, CA – It is possible for someone get to see the real “moves like Jagger” in person and walk away with Keith Richards guitar pick. It happened for Cathedral City Cove residents Elizabeth Venturini, a local private college admissions consultant and her husband Scott Lund, musicologist and children’s education specialist. Venturini scored two tickets to see the recent privately held Rolling Stones concert that took place on May 20th at the Fonda Theatre by submitting a post on the famous rock group’s Facebook page.
“When we are kids, we dream of growing up to be famous ‘rock stars’ like the Rolling Stones. Today the term ‘rock star’ relates to the super status of any vocation. I love helping college-bound hopefuls look like ‘rock stars’ so they can gain admission to their dream colleges. High-school teens are big social media users. When they work with me, I show them the power of being ‘social media savvy’ so they look like winners on their college applications. This very skill is the reason I got to do something really cool with The Rolling Stones myself.”
“The Rolling Stones Facebook page was asking for stories from fans about the first time they heard the ‘Sticky Fingers’ album,” said Venturini. “I submitted my story on how I was a teenager when my mother bought the album. She didn’t want me or my siblings to see the famous close-up of a jeans-clad male crotch by pop artist Andy Warhol. So she covered it up with a brown paper shopping bag and duct taped it. Then she drew a skull and crossbones on the package to remind us that we would be in big trouble if we tried to open it.”
Venturini received a phone call Monday, May 18th from JA Digital — a production company making a documentary about the album ‘Sticky Fingers.’ They were looking for fans that had a story to tell about what the songs on the album meant to them.
“The director of documentary said she laughed when she read my post and wanted to interview me,” said Venturini. The reward for the interview was two tickets to see the Rolling Stones private concert at The Fonda Theatre.
Venturini and her husband Scott Lund were a few of the lucky Rolling Stones fans to hear the band perform all of the songs from their famous album. “We were within five to ten feet of Mick Jagger and Keith Richards,” said Venturini. “At times, they were both so close to the edge of the stage I felt as if I could have touched their tennis shoes.”
Venturini had watched enough videos of past Rolling Stones performances to know that Keith Richards always stands to the left of Mick Jagger and sometimes throws out his guitar pick to the audience. As luck would have it Richards threw out the pick he had been using for the performance and Venturini caught it.
The show had a special meaning for Venturini. “I was a child the first time I saw them on a little black and white TV,” said Venturini. It was 1964 and they were on the Ed Sullivan Show. Who would have ever thought I would see them in person in a private concert? It was a special night, a thrill of a lifetime. Posting on social media in this case had a huge pay off for me.”
