“Since the days of Andrew Carnegie and J.P. Morgan, the Steel Industry has been the backbone of U.S. manufacturing,” states Steven Asson, Vice President at FabSuite. “In recent years, the U.S. has produced more than 80 million metric tons of steel per year. From buildings to ships to cars to lawn mowers to blenders, steel shapes our daily lives, and SteelDay is an opportunity to highlight the industry and the individuals who live, breathe, and work steel.”SteelDay is an annual event and is the industry's largest educational and networking function, with events occurring all over the country. It's an opportunity to see how the structural steel industry contributes to building America.
Facility tours will be available at a variety of locations: Structural Steel Fabricators, Steel Mills, Steel Service Centers, HSS Producers, Bender-Rollers, Galvanizers. In addition, many hosts will be offering other types of events such as jobsite tours, educational presentations, and "hands-on" activities.
SteelDay also provides individuals working in the steel industry a chance to show off their talents. STEEL-a-palooza gives association member employees with musical skills the opportunity to share their music. The Steel Sculpture Competition gives visual artists in the industry a chance to compete and display their steel sculpting abilities.
Asson explains that several of its fabricator clients are hosting events this year. “Our clients really enjoy the community interaction. SteelDay is fun and educational—industry veterans attend, college students attend, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts attend.
