When it comes to the newest and best media viewing devices, the term 4K is sure to be included. This is especially true when referring to the most state-of-the-art projectors to hit the market. But, what exactly is 4K?
4K, also known as Ultra High Definition (UHD) is used to describe resolution specifically around the horizontal and vertical arrangement of pixels. The 4K measurement is achieved once a resolution has reached at least 4,000 pixels (h) x 2,000 pixels (v).
Prior to 2015, 4K resolution was mostly reserved for commercial projector models and came at a very high price. Recently however, major manufactures have honed in on 4K technology and have brought it to the public by making it more accessible and affordable. Now, almost all higher-end televisions and projectors sold to the public offer 4K technology.
In particular, projectors with 4K technology have hit the public market with force. People are now able to view their movies, sports, TV shows, and even video games in ultra-high definition like never seen before, all while at larger than life movie theater sized viewing. And, though it was not too long ago that HD was said to be as clear and crisp as projector imagery could get, 4K has shattered expectations providing an even smoother and life like viewing experience.
Sony was the first major manufacture to bring 4K projectors to the public. Sony’s competitors, including Epson and JVC, are now not far behind. And 4K technology is expected to become the norm with projectors over the next one to two years. Studies have even shown that most American households will have at least one 4K media viewing device in their home by the year 2025.
There are reports of numerous benefits that come along with owning a 4K projector. The first benefit is price. At first glance 4K projectors seem to be expensive. It is important to remember, however, that 4K projectors deliver the highest quality definition projection available for up 100” plus of viewing space. A 4K television of this size would cost five times that of a 4K projector.
Another impressive benefit that comes along with owning a 4K projector is that a projector can be mounted to the ceiling and will not take up floor or wall space. Mounting a massive and heavy television comes with additional costs and additional space requirements.
As projector equipment improves and continues to become the new norm for personal media viewing, 4K technology integration maintains the key element to taking what is known as vibrant and flawless definition to places once never thought possible. It is only a matter of time before the world embraces 4K viewing technology as the new normal while pre-4K devices become a thing of the past.
4K technology is finding its way into all media devices, especially the best projectors, and has set the standard against which all other resolution is judged.
