Citing strong ticket sales, Grammy award winning hip hop artist Drake recently announced nearly a dozen new dates on his current Summer 16 tour. The new dates include stops in Toronto, Montreal, Edmonton, Los Angeles, Chicago, Brooklyn, Denver, San Jose, Philadelphia, Newark, and Des Moines. Presale tickets for the new dates went on sale over the past week, and are already hitting the secondary market, says concert ticket site ConcertBank.com.
“Drake tickets are selling well, as they always do,” said a site spokesman. “The newest Drake tickets started hitting our markets as soon as they became available through presale in all areas.” In Des Moines, where Drake and Future added a date for October 6, a local media outlet interviewed area college students about the supposed “high price” of Drake tickets. Students and other Drake fans overwhelmingly agreed that the prices were “worth it,” with some citing the tour as a “once in a lifetime experience.” Tickets for the Drake Summer 16 Des Moines show range across a number of price points, with online tickets starting just above $60. The highest priced Drake and Future tickets for that date are center floor seats in the first 14 rows. Those tickets, which will place fans practically within touching distance of the hip hop artist and guests, range from $1,300 to $1,476 per ticket.
Drake’s Summer 16 tour kicks off in Austin, TX on July 20, and will hit 40 cities across the U.S. and Canada. Many of the shows are already sold out, with tickets only available via secondary market sites like ConcertBank.com. The tour teams Drake with fellow rapper, Future, and will feature numbers drawn from each of their most recent album releases, as well as from their joint album release last year. Drake’s latest album, Views, dropped earlier this month, debuting at #1 on the Billboard top 200 chart. Views hit the 1 million album equivalent sales mark quickly, and broke Beyonce’s recent streaming record by racking up an impressive 245.1 million streaming downloads in less than one week. Beyonce’s Lemonade counted 115 million streaming plays when it was released just a week earlier.
“Drake tickets are always hot sellers on the secondary concert ticket market,” one inside observer noted. “But the sales for the Summer 16 concert are exceeding all expectations.” According to ConcertBank.com, their inventory changes constantly as tickets are sold and refreshed, so fans should jump on tickets they want when they see them to avoid disappointment.
