Phoenix, AZ June 2015 – Gawley Plastic Surgery Center is pleased to offer the newly FDA approved Kybella to current and future patients in Phoenix and Scottsdale. Kybella is the first and only non-surgical approved treatment for submental fat, also known as a ‘double chin’.
The body has a naturally occurring molecule, called deoxycholic acid, which helps break down and absorb dietary fat. Kybella is a synthetic form of this molecule, an injectable cytolytic drug that has been approved by the FDA, to be used for improving moderate to severe fullness in the chin.
Kybella is approved for patients over the age of 18 and only for use in the submental area for now. The injectable drug is administered into fat deposits under the patient’s chin with a series of injections during each visit. The number of treatments a patient may require is dependent on various factors, which Dr. Gawley or Jamie Comstock PA-C will determine during the consultation. The most common side effects of Kybella include bruising, swelling, pain, redness and numbness of the treatment area. The recovery time from this treatment is around 2 to 3 days.
