A new online journal has recently been unveiled for the beautiful and famous village of Deià on the Balearic island of Mallorca off the west coast of Spain. The journal features daily news concerning Deià, nearby Sóller, and from Mallorca as a whole.

Dateline 19th December, 2012 – Deià, Mallorca. The famous small coastal village of Deià, perched gracefully on the seaward edge of the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range of west coast Mallorca, in the Spanish Balearic islands, is once more host to a memorable event, again thrusting the village into the spotlight of international attention.

Deià, since the end of the First World War, has become renowned for its wealth of literary and musical residents, perhaps even eclipsing its idyllic landscape and mountains, sea and orange and olive groves. One of the first noteworthy foreigners to settle there was the English novelist, poet and scholar, Robert Graves who, together with American writer Laura Riding, founded the Seizin Press there. Graves lived in Deià until his death in 1985, after which his home became a popular museum.

Indeed Deià has regularly been the setting for literary works. Anaïs Nin visited the village, writing a short story set on its beach, which itself was more recently celebrated in another short story by Spanish writer Carmen Naranjo.

Then just ten miles to the south lies perhaps the even more famous, if smaller, village of Valldemossa, one time home to Argentinian writer and poet Jorge Luis Borges and his artist sister Norah, plus several other literary figures. Not to mention also being famous for the visir by French writer Georges Sand and Frédéric Chopin, recorded in the once banned book "A Winter in Mallorca".

All this a perfect backdrop for the latest journal and news portal, this time with a 21st century flavour, to find its roots in such an illustrious setting. Deià News has a keen eye on all important issues that affect the locality and the island of Mallorca as a whole.
