Davao City’s coffee scene is more alive than ever before as coffee shops pop up like mushrooms all over the metropolis. One such café is barely-a-year-old Dayaw Coffee and Tea located at the 2nd Level Fountain Court of SM Lanang Premier, the largest shopping mall in Mindanao.
Dayaw Coffee and Tea is just one of the many homegrown Davao City cafes yet it stands out from the rest. The café’s Dabawenyo theme makes it especially endearing to the locals: from the menu and staff uniform to the wall décor and artworks. Dayaw Coffee’s interior design is centered on the Tnalak fabric, a prominent fixture in local costumes and art. Tabletops are inlaid with coconut shells.
The café’s Dabawenyo theme extends to their menu. Their signature drinks are named after mountains in the region including Apo, Matutum, KItanglad, Talomo and Hamiguitan. Their coffee beans are sourced from local growers. To add to the Davao flavor, the café serves durian coffee. This beverage, laced with just the right amount of durian, is perfect for those who would like to try the flavor but are not keen on eating the actual fruit.
Guests can choose from the menu’s finger food and all-day breakfast meals. Homemade pastries are available to accompany a cup of coffee or as take home treats.
Dayaw Coffee and Tea is the only coffee shop in SM Lanang Premier that is open 24/7. It caters mostly to employees of its next door neighbor Ibex Global, a contact center. WiFi access is free inside the café and they offer a VIP card to loyal customers.
Davao City has long enjoyed a thriving coffee community. Long before the entry of coffee giants Starbucks and Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf (CBTL), cafes like Bo’s, Karl’s Koffee Corner and Blugre Coffee have been serving gourmet coffee to the many coffee lovers of Davao.
Over the years, coffee shops have proliferated in Davao City, supporting the local coffee growers and promoting the unique Dabawenyo flavors. Dayaw Coffee and Tea is definitely one of the best.
