The book, dubbed by fans as a perfect book present for Halloween, is composed of twelve short stories, each focusing on the theme of the dark side of animals, man, nature, and the supernatural. The stories were written by the three-time screenwriting finalist and screenwriting instructor Brian G. Walsh.

Walsh said, “I strive to write intense character-driven stories that are uncommon and eerie that will shock my readers. I’m pretty certain that my new book will be a surprise to many readers as they hold on to their eBook reader under their blankets before bedtime. The beautiful thing about this anthology is that it’s a great gift for horror lovers and lovers of other genres. It’s a twelve-in-one book that will leave readers wanting for more.”

Walsh considers the short stories a different brand of thriller literature with rich plots and dynamic characters which will make readers continuously turn the pages. Each of the twelve short stories have a central theme that focuses on the dark side of humans, animals and nature. “Raw human weakness is laid bare to fully expose who we really are beneath the veneer of civilization that supposedly separates us from the wild animals.”

In “Bloody Olde Knife,” Jack-the-Ripper is dead – but when a petty thief robs an obscure grave in Detroit he learns that Jack’s knife has a life of its own. “Fear of Darkness” is the tale of a nameless prisoner chained to a wall who is helpless to avoid the shapeless terror floating towards him – a terror of his own invention. In “Toy Soldiers,” there are survivors defending the Bosnian village a former schoolteacher-turned-soldier has been ordered to destroy – two small children. In “The Other Side of the Night,” World War II defeated German soldiers retreat from the Russian hordes, their lives depending on their last remaining sniper – a teenager who used to make toys with his father. “One Justice” is the tale of American soldiers searching for four missing Nazi war criminals at a University in France – four Nazi’s who aren’t really missing at all. “An Old Wound” follows a weary African-American cop just days from retirement haunted by a tragic mistake from his past – a mistake that just might kill him.

The flagship story, No Place For Mercy, tells the story of the leader of a wolf pack that leads his pursuers to the point of no return – then turns around to confront the humans who killed his mate. All twelve stories have been lauded by fans.
