Music a blend of lively gospel, cool jazz.

A portion of the proceeds from the recently released debut album by Charles Moorer and The Faithful Few will benefit the Indiana Make-A-Wish Foundation, an organization that holds a special connection to the group’s lead vocalist.

Charles “Chuck” Moorer and his family received support from the Indiana Make-A-Wish Foundation when his then 16-year-old son Chadwin was battling renal sickle cell carcinoma, a form of cancer that gave him a 10 percent survival rate.

The wish the Foundation provided turned into a celebration of life when Chadwin was miraculously healed. A few years later, Moorer himself was healed of cancer.

“Through my own personal experience, I came to realize just how caring so many people are in donating their time and resources to be a blessing to so many children and their families, who through no fault of their own, have been dealt with a difficult blow to their mind, body, and spirit,” Moorer said. “The Indiana Make-A-Wish Foundation is hands down my favorite charity!”

Divine Direction, the independent group’s debut album, is a mix of lively, funky gospel and cool jazz united with powerful songwriting. The title track points to God through an easy flowing vocal urban jazz groove, with a smooth and silky saxophone taking the emotional harmony role behind Moorer’s silky lead vocals.

Two tracks offer up varied versions, with “Make A Change” as both an instrumental and vocal piece, and “We Praise You” performed first as old school jazz gospel jam followed by a remix with spirited rap vocals.

Throughout the album listeners will experience trumpet and saxophone harmonies, rocking electric guitar edges, and soulful female vocals by the group’s members. Moorer delivers powerful lead vocals and performs on both the bass guitar and fretless bass.

With seven tracks in all, Divine Direction draws from Bible’s creation story where the number seven is God’s number for completion. Future albums by the Faithful Few are also expected to contain seven tracks.

“If it’s good enough for Him, it’s good enough for us,” Moorer said.

The group doesn’t bill themselves as entertainers, but a ministry full of love of God and concerned about doing His will by spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ through music, a message delivered throughout Divine Direction.

Moorer’s lifelong passion for music began while singing gospel concerts in his native Ohio as a youth. During college he performed with R&B/funk and jazz groups and later moved to Los Angeles to follow his musical dreams. But after much soul searching, the Lord led him back to the Midwest, Moorer said.

While looking for a home church in Indianapolis, Moorer found the 28th Street Church of God in Christ and returned to his gospel roots when he volunteered to play bass in the church’s band. In 2000, the original lineup for The Faithful Few was formed. Their mission to expand beyond the four walls of the church and provide outreach to people across the world remains strong.
