Corporate team building exercise brings gift boxes to patients and their families.

Deemed the 2013-14 Best Children's Hospital by U.S. News and World Report in the fields of cardiology and heart surgery as well as gastroenterology and GI surgery, Children's Hospital and Medical Center of Omaha offers treatment in more than 30 pediatric specialties and is the only full-service pediatric health center in Nebraska and the only Level II Pediatric Trauma Center in the region. Their attributes are well known by the 250,000 children receiving care at this facility each year as well as their families.

In an effort to spread hope and encouragement, the local branch of Cargill, a multi-national agricultural solutions company, recently teamed up with Cheeriodicals, a national online gift company, to provide hundreds of cheer-up gift boxes to the hospital's patients and their families. Held on February 26, 2014, this Cheeriodicals Day event saw countless smiles brought to faces throughout the hospital when recipients opened the big green boxes for which Cheeriodicals is known.

Children's Development Officer Alyssa DeFrain commented, "We are so excited to have the team from Cargill and Cheeriodicals visit Children's Hospital and Medical Center today. We sincerely appreciate Cargill for sponsoring this day of smiles. All of our patients were thrilled to receive such special and fun gifts."

"We're pleased to work with Cargill to bring smiles to every child at Children's Hospital and Medical Center," said Gary Parisher, President of Cheeriodicals. "Nothing we do matters more than our efforts in children's hospitals and other family-based charities." Built on personal realization of the lack of personalized gifts for those who are ill combined with first-hand knowledge of the toll chronic illnesses have on patients and their families, the Cheeriodicals team has helped make possible numerous events of this nature.

In this case, the Cheeriodicals (Cheerful Periodicals) were created through a corporate team building exercise and were filled with age-appropriate magazines, toys, puzzles, crafts and numerous other treats and were specifically tailored to boys and girls of various ages. The company also offers gift boxes for adults filled with the recipient's favorite magazine and varieties of individually selected snacks.

"We're thrilled to work with Cheeriodicals to bring joy to Nebraska families battling cancer and other childhood diseases," affirmed Cargill spokesperson, Julie Warden. Giving back is something we strongly believe in throughout our organization. We engaged 400 of our employees in 2 separate team building events to build the Cheeriodicals ourselves, allowing our entire team to be a part of spreading the cheer." Established with a commitment to helping communities thrive, this event was wholly consistent with Cargill's very purpose.

Along with the delivery to Children's Hospital and Medical Center, the Cargill team also provided cheer-up boxes to the Rainbow House and Ronald McDonald House of Omaha, one for each family and child.

The Children's, Cargill and Cheeriodicals teams noted their wishes to express gratitude to others who helped make this event possible as well. Two Men and a Truck, residential and commercial moving company of Omaha, graciously donated their time and services to transport the Cheeriodicals to their various locations. Additionally, Harrah's Council Bluffs Hotel generously provided courtesy accommodations for the Cheeriodicals team.
