Only two months into 2017, tornadoes have already ripped through many states including Mississippi, Louisiana and most recently Texas. Recently, the state of Alabama has also experienced tornado devastation and destruction this year, in a state where tornadoes are always on the minds of residents. Plastics Rotational molding leader Granger Plastics Company exhibited its tornado shelter innovation, the Granger ISS, at The Birmingham Home and Garden Show which was held this past weekend at the Birmingham Jefferson Civic Center. The show supplied over 230 vendors for attendees with several speakers and features such as a tiny home village. Over 23,000 people are estimated to have attended Thursday through Sunday of last week, with many show goers exclaiming that they were there specifically to find a tornado shelter.It is common knowledge in Alabama that tornadoes can destroy any type of building, while modular and portable buildings carrier a higher risk of damage than others. While all buildings and structures are susceptible to tornado damage and destruction, buildings that provide a storm shelter that meets or exceeds FEMA and ICC 500 standards can provide near absolute tornado protection. The Granger ISS was designed to be installed practically anywhere including outside of existing homes, in new construction or even added to existing structures. Attendees who came to the Granger ISS Storm Shelter booth at the Birmingham Home and Garden show could experience entering into a In-ground Safety Shelter as well as learn about tornado safety, the FEMA guidelines and available tornado shelter grants.
