Hoping to inspire his two daughters Author Brett Armstrong wrote The Compass more than thirteen years ago, now makes good on his promise to publish the short moral story.

More than a decade ago author Brett Armstrong wrote The Compass for his two young daughters. Today he is making good on a promise to publish the book. Armstrong wrote The Compass hoping to inspire his daughters and create a character to encourage them to try difficult things. He wanted nothing more than for them to grow up having confidence in their abilities. With that in mind he began writing short, moral stories intended to motivate his children.

“It was important to teach them that they could truly accomplish anything they wanted,” says Armstrong. “Too many people go through life just accepting whatever comes their way rather than deliberately designing their life. This story does that. I was determined to give my daughters the power to design their lives, to empower them with courage. Before they were even old enough to understand our family was reading The Compass as a bed time story.”

The Compass is an inspirational story of what’s possible when readers choose to follow their heart and ignore the voice of the “town’s people”. This noble tale is set in a quaint village, where for the majority of citizens every monotonous day is the same. While the people of Lexington enjoy the safety and protection of the King, they rarely explore beyond the boundaries of their sleepy village. That all changes one day when a young girl stumbles across a mysterious compass. She never expects to find the riches and grand adventures that await, or the cynical response of the townspeople who found it before her. Upon returning from her adventures the young woman discovers the secret to unimaginable success and happiness. She ultimately unlocks a secret that explains why The Compass spins uncontrollably for some while it holds fast and true for others.

When asked why it took thirteen years to get The Compass published, Armstrong explains that he received hundreds of rejection letters, but the dream of making The Compass a reality just wouldn’t go away. “It has lived in the back of my mind since I wrote it. The book has provided as much guidance to me as anyone. It’s a simple concept, and when looking for direction, during times when I’ve been faced with difficulty, the message of The Compass becomes clear.” It was during one of those difficult times that he felt strongly now was the time to publish it. It was a realization that if he truly believed in the message he would need to follow his own heart and make it happen.

Armstrong says, “There are thousands out there with goal, a desire or a dream to accomplish something that may sound unreasonable or crazy to others. If The Compass can help even one person accomplish their goal then all of these years working to get it published will be worth it.”

At the end of The Compass, readers are challenged to stop listening to the “townspeople” and follow their heart. Armstrong says, “that’s where the power lies, when we stop listening to what others say and hold true to our own beliefs and values.” This short moral story is now available in print at Amazon or in eBook at www.authorbrettarmstrong.com.
