According to the latest research data conducted by Royal Morgan Research, Australia's sunny Gold Coast has once again been crowned as Australia's most desirable domestic tourist destination for stays of longer than three nights.
The Gold Coast is situated in the state of Queensland and stretches between Tweed Heads in the South to Surfers Paradise in the North, and is a pleasant 1.5 hours drive from Brisbane. According to the 20,000 strong survey, nine per cent of Australians nominated the Gold Coast as the destination they would most likely visit for a long holiday.
To add to Queensland's accolades, the state took half of the remaining top ten destinations amongst those surveyed, with Tropical North Queensland and the Sunshine Coast taking the third and fourth most popular options.
The Gold Coast offers a vast array of activities amongst extraordinary scenic backdrops, including world-class surfing beaches, world famous international golf courses and hotels, a casino, and a variety of theme-parks. Boating, surf lessons and whale watching are also popular attractions.

We have some of the most picturesque beautiful beaches and backdrops in the world, so it's not a wonder. I've shot weddings on gorgeous beaches, headlands, tropical gardens and even beside waterfalls. It's such an awesome place!”

Whilst some of the coast's beaches offer world-renowned surf breaks and attract large numbers of surfers from all over the world including USA, Brazil, Japan and Europe, there are also many sections of long and exquisite, white-sand beaches where one can swim or surf the warm waters under the safety of professional lifeguard patrols.
Local surfer Brad Hines says he can surf all year round in board shorts alone. “The water is always a good temperature. It's only the occasional cold wind in our so-called winter that can make you a little chilly, but that usually means good waves are on the way, so surfers don't mind much”, he laughs.
Exotic Dancer, Gopali Nelson, likes the fact there's no shortage of music festivals, dance, theatre and museums as well. “The Gold Coast is Australia's sixth largest city so there's lots of diversity here and everyone is catered for nicely. Just a few weeks ago, I saw a huge stage being set up on the beach for a classical music concert, there's always some great entertainment on offer here.”
The Quiksilver Pro and the Roxy Pro World Championship Tour surf events for men and women are held on the Gold Coast's southern end every year during February/March.
