A long-running member of the Loudoun County community has released the date of its latest upcoming event. Gabriel Gamboa, owner of the Arthur Murray Dance Studio Ashburn, recently announced that this year's Summer Showcase will be held on Sunday, June 25 at the McLean Hilton in Tysons Corner. Seven Washington, DC area schools will be participating in the performance.The annual Summer Showcase gives Arthur Murray dance students an opportunity to display their skills before a live audience. Participants may choose between two styles of dance: smooth and rhythm. Examples of each include the Foxtrot, Waltz and Tango or Rumba, Swing and Salsa respectively. Students are allowed to perform up to three routines, the duration of which may be 60 to 90 seconds, and may compete with a partner of choice or professional dancer. Professional judges assess each performance with scoring based on technique and showmanship.
Also featured is the All Around competition in which each participant dances at his or her level of skill through a number of elimination rounds. Winners in each level are awarded certificates or trophies. Further details are available through Arthur Murray Dance Center's website.
Said Gamboa, "Participating in area showcase events is a great way for students to accelerate their learning. Having a goal in mind encourages students to work harder at their dancing and improve specific dances they work on. It is also a great way to get exercise, gain confidence and meet people with similar interests. Students who participate in these events on a regular basis often improve faster than students who do not participate. Similar to music or ballet recitals, the showcases are an integral part of students' ability to perfect their ballroom dancing craft."
