Anawim Offers Home for the Rejected and Abandoned Elderly

Elderly men and women who have been abandoned by their families and casted to the streets now have a place to go. Anawim is a non-government organization who provides shelter as well as basic care and services to these poor and abandoned elderly.

The abandoned and rejected elderly now have a place they can call their home. Anawim is a place where the pain suffered by the elderly due to the rejection from their own families is wiped away, and where they can rest and peacefully live the rest of their lives.


Anawim is a small facility for poor and abandoned elderly people founded by Catholic lay preacher Bo Sanchez in Rizal Province, Philippines. It opened its doors in 1996 when it saw urgent need to provide a peaceful and comfortable shelter for the poor and abandoned elderly who were found roaming in the streets. Their mission is to make sure that the elderly who have been abandoned by their families have a place to live their years.


Anawim offers four basic service for the elderly that they take care of. They provide care and rehabilitation services, making sure that the ehalth needs of each elderly is properly addressed. This is possible through volunteer services provided by physicians and other medical stuff. With this, they also make sure that these elderly feel at home in their premises by providing home life care.


Anawim also makes sure that these abandoned elderly’s spiritual lives are well nourished through regular prayers and reflections. These help them strengthen their connection with God. Aside from spiritual life services, Anawim also offers 1-on-1 counseling. Loneliness is a common problem with these elderly and Anawim makes sure that these problems are channelled through the experts.
