Agein Corporation Releases Comments on Dangerous DIY Sunscreen Trend, Announces Tips

Agein.com warns that the trend of homemade sunscreen is actually putting skin at risk and provides tips for proper summer skin care.

Agein.com, the Internet’s premier anti-aging web site focusing on anti-aging tips, news, and advice from some of the foremost experts in the industry, is releasing its comments on the dangerous trend toward making and using one’s own sunscreen. The company is also announcing its top summer skincare tips.

The Cosmetic, Toiletry and Perfumery Association (CTPA), the U.K. cosmetic trade association, issued a warning about do-it-yourself (DIY) sunscreens following recent consumer trends toward making and using sun protection at home. While many believe store-bought sunscreens contain harsh chemicals that could do more damage than the sun, the CTPA maintains that there is no way to guarantee homemade sunscreen offers the kind of protection that can shield against wrinkle-inducing UVA rays or cancer-causing UVB rays. “DIY sunscreen, while popular with organic and natural beauty enthusiasts, often calls for beeswax or coconut oil and almond oil as a natural SPF. However, these ingredients can actually promote sunburns,” says Dr. Kevin J. McLaughlin, Agein.com’s anti-aging and health and wellness specialist. “Certain oils can actually absorb light, helping dangerous UV rays penetrate the skin. Studies show that just one case of serious sunburn can increase the risk of developing melanoma.”

Dr. McLaughlin explains that even when using the right ingredients, such as zinc oxide and titanium oxide, there is no way to guarantee the mixture is right; if done incorrectly, the sunscreen will be ineffective. Instead of attempting to make a sunscreen, consumers can purchase a chemical-free one.

When it comes to protecting skin and keeping it healthy and young looking, Dr. McLaughlin and Agein.com are offering their top summer skincare tips. Skin is exposed to a number of elements that can cause damage, especially for those living in urban areas, such as weather, pollution, and even stress, says McLaughlin. During the heat of the summer, he says it’s important to use a comprehensive, daily skincare regimen.

“The fact of the matter is that everyone should be caring for their skin every time they go outside. For starters, it’s vital that people drink enough water to keep the body and skin hydrated, because roughly 60% of the body is made of water,” Dr. McLaughlin adds. “As a result, staying hydrated plays an important part in keeping the body functioning optimally. Further, skin that is dehydrated can become irritated and sensitive.”

“Before going outside, a person should prepare their skin by removing dirt and bacteria; this is especially wise in the summer, since the hotter weather can cause the skin to perspire more,” Dr. McLaughlin concludes. “Use a moisturizer that has been developed using advanced, gentle ingredients such as Alpine rose, plant stem cell extract, and peptides such as Matrixyl 3000 and Argireline. Such moisturizers are formulated to replenish natural moisture and deliver remarkable, age-defying results.”
