Agein.com comments on the FDA’s decision to have artificial trans fats removed from processed foods by 2018.

Agein.com, the Internet’s premier anti-aging web site focusing on anti-aging tips, news, and advice from some of the foremost experts in the industry, is weighing in on news that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is ordering food companies to phase out all artificial trans fats by 2018, saying they are a threat to public health.

On June 16, the FDA announced that food companies will have until June 2018 to phase out all artificial trans fats from processed foods. In addition to saying trans fats are a threat to public health, the FDA concluded there is no safe level for consumption of trans fats. Foods that still commonly contain trans fats include pie crusts, frozen pizzas, microwave popcorn, coffee creamers, refrigerated dough, vegetable shortenings, and stick margarines. “Even though trans fat consumption in the U.S. has decreased by roughly 78% since 2003, this recent move by the FDA sends the important message that there is no healthy level for consuming trans fats,” says Dr. Kevin J. McLaughlin, Agein.com’s anti-aging and health and wellness specialist. “While consumers will probably not even notice a difference in what they eat, the move will reduce coronary heart diseases and help prevent thousands of fatal heart attacks each year.”

The FDA is not targeting small amounts of trans fats that occur naturally in some meat and dairy products because it would be too difficult to remove. Naturally occurring trans fats are also not considered a major public health threat by themselves.

Used primarily to improve texture, shelf life, or flavor, the reason why trans fats are so dangerous is because they can raise the level of “bad" LDL cholesterol and lower the level of "good" HDL cholesterol. Trans fats are created when hydrogen is added to vegetable oil to make it more solid.

“Removing artery-clogging trans fats from the American diet will also have a positive impact on the way people look, feel, and age; even our memory can be positively impacted. That’s because poor-quality processed foods that contain trans fats cause inflammation and expedite aging,” Dr. McLaughlin adds. “When it comes right down to it, nutrition is a more important factor than age. What one eats affects the skin and internal chemistry, and as a result, eating habits have a major impact on how quickly someone begins to see and feel the signs and effects of aging.”

To help people live healthier lives while looking and feeling younger, Agein.com is pleased to announce the release of a new expert report, Dr. McLaughlin’s Beauty Secrets from Within: Best Anti-Aging Foods. Not available for purchase in-store, consumers receive a complimentary copy when they purchase a two- or three-bottle package of the AgeinTM Concentrate Serum.

“The Agein™ Concentrate Serum contains three breakthrough ingredients that penetrate the deeper layers of skin. Combined, these three ingredients provide more anti-wrinkle and anti-aging relief than any ingredient could separately,” Dr. McLaughlin concludes. “When it comes to finding an intensive repair treatment for wrinkles, AgeinTM Concentrate Serum helps nourish damaged skin and visibly lifts, tones, tightens, and firms the look of the whole face.”
