On Thursday September 18, 2014 Access Rehab Inc. – Physiotherapy Markham will be proudly participating in the Third Annual Lawyer's Can't Jump Charity Basketball Tournament, supporting and raising funds for CAMH Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, who have been acknowledged as a world leader in brain science. CAMH provides care for more than 28,000 patients and 500,000 outpatient visits, making them one of the largest teaching hospitals in North America. This year, Access Rehab will be a Platinum Sponsor for this event.

This event will bring together law firms, rehabilitation & physiotherapy clinics, insurance companies, peers, etc. to compete against each other in a friendly game of basketball to raise awareness of mental health (also known as psychiatric disorders) and addiction and the negative impact this terrible disease can cause in one's life.

Jim Anagnostopoulos, Clinic Director of Access Rehab Inc., had this to say:

“Think of someone you know that has been affected by this illness and how their life was changed; think of all the celebrities that have been hit with a mental disorder, some of which took their life because of it. Seeking help and becoming educated on the illness may also avoid misunderstanding and fear. Mental illnesses, like physical illnesses, can occur in several forms and severities, if you or someone you know is suffering from a mental illness, there is hope; mental illnesses can be treated!”

Mental illnesses can include one or more of the following: Anxiety Disorders, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Depression, Phobia & Panic Disorders, Bipolar Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Eating Disorder, Postpartum Depression,Grieving Suicidal Thoughts,Mental Illness in the Workplace, and Schizophrenia.

According to CAMH, mental illness will indirectly affect all Canadians at some point in their life through a family member, friend or colleague.
